Sex Pistols, Damned, Ramones. The raw punk originators. You forgot one. As important, birthing that chainsaw fuzzed guitar & snot vox double hit possibly first in the world, Brisbane, Orstralia’s THE SAINTS. Their first three albums cross ‘77-‘78, the clutch of those first hot wired singles, as great as any other peers, as any other punk rock aristocracy. They covered NZ 60s garage legend, leader of the Missing Links, Andy Anderson’s “Wild About You” on their debut LP. They turbo charged Otis Redding’s “Security”, put thunder down under “River Deep, Mountain High”, the Ike/Tina Turner classic.

There’s one last shot at hearing that magic again. Friday October 31st. The Powerstation. A heavyweight tribe of involved players assembled under SAINTS ‘73-‘78. Recreating those first five years of sublime original punk fury. Mudhoney’s Mark Arm slinging the vocal snide & howl, original Saints’ guitar fuzz slinger Ed Kuepper setting the stun, Birthday Party/Bad Seeds mainstay Mick Harvey doubling up the fuzz punch, original Saints beatsman Ivor Hay cementing the pound.

Any past & current guitar heaviness owes a bunch to Ed Kuepper. He unlocked Pandora’s box of feedback, broke the chains on the prescribed limits to amplifier volume & distortion pedal fuzz. Come witness thee origins, where it all began. You thought London, New York, maybe Midwest Ohio? Nah mate, Brisbane 1973.
