Handsome Tours presents the return of London-based sonic outfit Public Service Broadcasting who return to New Zealand in May, bringing their powerful, cinematic live show to audiences across the southern hemisphere.
Since emerging into existence in 2009, Public Service Broadcasting – led by instrumentalist-auteur J. Willgoose, Esq. – have forged a singular musical identity, transforming archival narratives into rousing, emotionally resonant works that blend post-rock, electronics and orchestral grandeur.
“We've been asking about coming back to Australia and New Zealand for what feels like an age, and we're really pleased to be able to announce these shows at last. We hope as many people can come and join us as possible and look forward to seeing you all soon.” - Public Service Broadcasting
Across a celebrated catalogue including Inform-Educate-Entertain, The Race For Space, Every Valley, Bright Magic and the spectacular BBC Proms-recorded This New Noise, the band have explored human endeavour, collective memory and the restless drive to push beyond known limits.
Their most recent work, The Last Flight, marks a profound new chapter. Turning their focus inward toward a more personal form of heroism, the album centres on the life and final journey of pioneering aviator Amelia Earhart. Framed around her ill-fated 1937 attempt to circumnavigate the globe, The Last Flight captures not only Earhart’s bravery and ambition, but her philosophy of living fully, freely and without compromise.
Sonically rich and emotionally expansive, the record evokes motion, risk and wonder – from propulsive hymns of flight to moments of haunting stillness – and stands among Public Service Broadcasting’s most affecting works to date. As ever, their meticulous storytelling and immersive live performance elevate history into something urgent and deeply human.
In 2025, The Last Flight was transformed into a fresh scientific serving of remixes, featuring electronic producers, DJs and guest vocalists from across the universe including alt-j, This Is The Kit, Alex Silva, Peter Sandberg, the KVB, EERA, Hainbach, Andreya Casablanca and Late NIght Final - the electronic side project of Public Service Broadcasting’s J. Willgoose, Esq.
Renowned for their visually arresting shows and ability to turn historical narratives into shared, communal experiences, Public Service Broadcasting’s return to New Zealand promises an unforgettable live encounter – one that is at once awe-inspiring, moving and exhilarating.
