Omnipotent Youth Society returns to New Zealand for their long-awaited first headline show.

As one of the most influential and defining bands in Chinese rock music, Omnipotent Youth Society has created a sound entirely their own through profound ideas, poetic expression and richly layered musical arrangements. Moving between alternative rock, folk and art rock, their music navigates restraint and eruption, reality and imagination, capturing the changing fortunes of cities, generations and individuals.

The band’s self-titled debut album received widespread acclaim from both listeners and critics, becoming a landmark release in twenty-first-century Chinese-language music. Their second album, Inside the Cable Temple, further cemented their important place in contemporary Chinese music through its expanded musical scope and intellectual depth.

For this first New Zealand headline show, Omnipotent Youth Society will bring their ten-piece live ensemble to Auckland. From delicately unfolding passages to explosive waves of sound, from intricate instrumentation to the collective resonance of the entire room, each song will take the audience on a “complex journey” through their own lived experiences.
